When I read this story, I was touched extraordinarily. I have always been a believer of the saying that everything is possible but one man re affirmed my convictions to a great extent. His name,Dashrath Manjhi.
Popularly known on the Web as the mountain man, Dashrath did the seeming impossible, he moved a mountain. I narrate his ordeal to the best of my knowledge
A picture of Dashrath
There was this huge mountain that was obstructing the village where Dashrath lived in from civilisation and the Government cared little about it. The path around the mountain was also a treacherous one, and Dashrath 's wife sustained an injury while trying to traverse the mountain as she brought him water. Her injury grew worse and Dashrath was handicapped as the nearest hospital was 70 km away and a shorter route had the mountain in its way. Dashrath 's wife died because of lack of medical care. Dashrath was hurt and decided in his heart to bring down the mountain .
Fueled with passion and out of hurt, he resoved that he would not allow that kind of fate befall anyone, and with a chisel in hand and a hammer he moved towards this gigantic mountain and started to bring it down. Working day and night for 22 years. He shortened the distance between his village and civilisation from 55 kilometers to 15 kilometers. ( if your don't appreciate the distance keep in ming that a metre is about the full stretch of a grown man's leg, so roughly what it would take you 55 thousand complete fully stretched steps to traverse Dashrath reduced this to about 15 thousand. )
Dashrath said though the death of his wife was his initial spark. But what kept him going all those years was his desire to see thousands of passengers pass his hand paved way.
People thought he was mad , actually even I might have thought of him as mad. I mean a man starts towards a mountain that humongous and decides he would bring it down with a chisel and hammer. If this is not the definition of Madness then what is? but this only corroborates the words of Steve Jobs
"The people who change the world are those who believe and think they are crazy enough to do so."
Today, the entire village now walks this path. Medical attention , food supplies etc now gets to them in time. Even though Dashrath is dead. His legacy leaves on.
Many times we have dreams , very big dreams but we give up on them. We do not fight hard enough and so we never accomplish them. But if a man can move a mountain? How big is your dream really?
