A friend once told me that the word “Toast” was out-dated, and that the modern
day word was ”Psych” or was it “Sike”? We did not even know how to spell it. Is
it even in the dictionary yet? I guess I should
just stick what we all know….. “Toast”
The Ideal TOASTER
Finding the ideal boyfriend or should I say lover is a big
issue for the average girl . The Typical teenage girl usually has “the list”
comprising of what they want in a guy. Whenever I get into a conversation with
girls in their approachable years I seldom ask them to give me the list and I
have hardly ever been disappointed. There is always “the list”
Okay, so my article this week is mainly inspired by an
argument that got popular in the Nigerian Cyberspace recently . It is about how Kiss Daniel would make a much
better lover than Adekunle Gold. I got
involved at different times with some of my female friends on social media so I
thought it nice to share my perspective here
For people who do not get the argument , l will do some explaining . The argument here
really is not about either Kiss Daniel or Adekunle Gold’s personalties in reality
but what they stand for from what we have had them say in their songs.
KISS DANIEL
Kiss Daniel stands for the toaster who showers a lot of
gifts on his targets , the sweet talker , the dreamy kind of guy. A typical
Kiss Daniel would make you swoon and
drag you into a world of fantasy. In Kiss daniel’s lyrics you hear things like
“Baby take my Dukia , my Dear “. Dukia, in Yoruba means properties. He is the
Lover ready to sell his last penny in giving
all the satisfaction his girl demands.
You will hear “Lo to ri mi lo je
gbese eeee” Yoruba for telling someone
to acquire more than they can afford but the bill is on you. Typically he is the lover most girls would go
for because he promises them a fairy tale .
ADEKUNLE GOLD
Adekunle gold stands for a lover who is no doubt a sweet
talker too ( To be a toaster you must be a smooth talker ,no compromise here)
but he is more down to earth and reality. In his songs , Adekunle Gold tells
his target things like “ A le ma lowo lowo ooo, Sugbon ani Alafia” which means in English that they may not have a lot of money or a place to live in but they have peace. Truth be told, modern
day girls don’t want to hear this kind of things from a toaster even though it
is the truth. But In reality, the
average boy who would toast a girl doesn’t have all the fantasies of life a
girl might desire, well YET. Should that stop him from having a chance? (The
not having a place to live in is a bit of an exaggeration though :})
SO WHO IS THE IDEAL
TOASTER ?
If you ever offered chemistry in school, you must have come
across an equation known as the “Ideal gas equation” a combination of sound gas
laws to provide the ultimate solution to gas problems . My solution to the
Ideal Toaster problem is not far-fetched from the thinking that led to the
ideal gas equation.
The Ideal Toaster must possess the qualities of both the
KISS DANIEL and ADEKUNLE GOLD toasters. He must find the balance between
fantasy and reality. He must be ready to offer his all for his lover if he had
“all” and at the same time let her know that he loves her regardless of the
situation they find themselves in.
He must be able to give up his properties
for her sake and at the same time make her understand that that he loves her
still whether or not he had them.
The idea I’m trying to pass across with this article is that
a sound relationship cannot be based on the luxuries that can be provided in
the relationship. Luxuries sure can make a relationship better, but would the
relationship survive when the luxuries are not present? Now that is the
question.
