Yes Education is meant to be fun!

Contrary to the popular opinion that our system has led us into believing, that education is a boring activity where you just have to shove the fact that 2 + 2 equals 4 in your head rather than understand why 2 + 2 equals 4 . Where we attend classes that are boring because a few lecturers have failed to stir our minds to the possibilities that exist beyond the classroom and have streamlined our thinking to the possibilities that exist only on the board. A world where we have to cram only the photocopied print outs of a select part of a text book and don’t comprehend the contents of the entire subject matter simply because no one cares if we understand any longer. (Also the prices of some of these books are outrageous to be candor) they only care if we can relay the answers they want to see on the board.

The sole purpose of education is not to confine our minds into a box but instead free our minds from the box, open our minds to the possibilities that exist beyond the fading walls of our classrooms. The process of education is meant to instigate our minds, to challenge us, to push boundaries! But these days we see that our education is a race about how fast or quickly you can come out with a certificate, so we can get good jobs. We need good jobs, but how do we function effectively on these jobs when we lack the basic understanding of the vital concepts needed for excelling.

While growing up, about the time I started schooling for the first time , I remember vividly that I was always eager to go to school with other kids to have FUN while LEARNING. I was always elated to learn something new everyday and when I did I wanted to share with the next person who cared to listen .

The memory of the first day I learned the multiplication table , it was the “2times” table. I got home about an hour after my school had closed.  On my way from school I excitedly recited the 2 times multiplication table to everyone I met on the way. I am quite sure that to the adults I recited this to,  it would have seemed a little odd and silly, but for me it was awesome to have learnt something new and I could not keep such a feeling to myself.

Sadly , it has been a long time I had such a high on learning . Today, the mere thought of school especially tests and examination almost sends a bad taste down my tongue. Examinations are meant to test what I have learnt but these days it tests what the examiner wants me to learn alone!!!!!!

The main point of all my rambling is that education and school should be ingredients to better us, challenge us to thinking wildly, enable us to think outside the box!!. It should be pumped and overflowing with a lot of excitement . It is not just a means to an end, but an end in itself!!!!!

Therefore the SKUL 2 brand says

I will not let School Define My education

I will make Learning FUN

I will Challenge myself to the possibilities beyond the classroom board
